Our Mission

We want to provide families and youth with a community-based support system which will strengthen their ability to cope in today's rapidly changing and complex society by providing a broad range of community services relevant to persons of all ages and from every socio-economic, ethnic and religious background.  We are a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers serving children, families and individuals who are confronting economic and social challenges by ensuing the existence of cultural, recreational, educational and social programs.

"The House with a Heart"

The Neighborhood House offers recreational, education, cultural and social service programs to the community with special emphasis on pre-school, school age children and parents.  Each day more than 500 children attend House Programs together with parents, volunteers, community organizations and local residents using the facility.

A Holistic approach, designed to provide parental substitution when necessary, is the cornerstone of our current efforts.  An affiliation agreement with the Morris School District has solidified this goal.  The Neighborhood House is a member agency of the United Neighborhood Centers of America and the United Way of Morris County.

Most of the programs charge a fee, but with the financial help that we make available to you, we always welcome those who walk through the doors.

Community Services

Through the Morristown Neighborhood House comprehensive continuum of services, we provide critical support for families with children from infancy through high school.  Cultural responsiveness is a core principle of our approach to services.  This is reflected in our ability to change from serving mainly Italians during the early 1900s, refining our program to assist primarily African-Americans being in the 1960s and adjusting again within the last decade in response to the dramatic increase in our Latino client base.  Over 50% our staff is bilingual (English / Spanish).  Through programs in Morristown, Denville, Randolph and Dover, Morristown Neighborhood House service a diverse population.  For example, at Peer Place (our child care center in Denville), approximately 35% of the children who are enrolled are Hispanic, 29% are from India and 8% are Asian.

Neighborhood House Serves clients with learning disabilities such as, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Downs Syndrome, as well as those who are physically challenged with impaired hearing, legal blindness and artificial limbs.  For example, approximately 12% of the children enrolled at our center in Randolph, the Dalrymple House Learning Center, have special needs (e.g., Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism).
